Green Sanctuary

greenchaliceIn 2007 UUCSV undertook its formal effort to become accredited as a Green Sanctuary by the UU Ministry for Earth. Our goal was to promote environmental health and stability in our church, our homes, and in the greater community of the Swannanoa Valley. With the mission of the UU Ministry for Earth, “Connecting and inspiring an active community of UUs for environmental justice, spiritual renewal, and shared reverence for our Earth home,” as our guide, we underwent the extensive process for becoming accredited. We completed the prescribed course of action in late summer 2009.

As a Green Sanctuary, “we envision a world in which all people make reverence, gratitude, and care for the living Earth central to their lives” (http://www.uua.org/environment/sanctuary)

We, therefore,

  1. make use of our Sunday services and other church activities to identify and address environmental matters.
  2. support living the values of the 7th Principle: Affirming and promoting respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part.
  3. promote responsible collaboration among community and church groups to improve our environment.
